November 5-7 at the DeltaPlex
Harvest Cluster Fun Facts
- The West Michigan Harvest Cluster ranks as one of the 75 largest shows in the USA this year!
- We will fill about 450 hotel rooms in the Grand Rapids metropolitan area.
- On average, an AKC dog show pumps about $400,000 into the local economy over a three day period.
- We will use 150 pounds of cedar and pine shavings for clean up in the three days.
- There will be 140+ different breeds coming to Grand Rapids.
- We are also hosting an obedience trial each of the three days.
- The entire Delta Plex is used.
- We are only one of two groups allowed to have RV camping at this facility the other is the circus.
- We are giving tours to several school groups on November 5, at no charge to the groups.
- We start with an average of 1500 dogs each day, and by 5:00 PM or so there will be one dog "best in show."
- The winner of best in show can go on to compete at the AKC invitational top prize there is $50,000 plus a new car.
- We will have a Michigan State Police K-9 demonstration on Saturday November 6 at noon.
- Unlike most other shows, we not only permit access to grooming areas, we actually encourage it!
- We will have all sorts of K-9 items for sale, as well things for people.
- Family admission, with discount coupons at all six locally owned Pet Supplies "Plus"® stores.
- Kids and Seniors may enter for free.
- This is a great family event. The educational prospects are amazing. Families can come and see the dogs they may be thinking about getting, ask lot's of questions, and see two, three, sometimes as many as 25 different dogs of the same breed it's truly an excellent way to find out all someone wants to know about dogs.
- This is the same kind/type of dog show that you see on Animal Planet, USA Network, and the like right here in West Michigan.
- There will not be another West Michigan show for over 6 months and then it will be in Kalamazoo.
- AKC dog shows are one of the few sports that allow an amateur to compete right along side a professional and have an even chance of pulling off the win! Last year our Best In Show winner on Friday was an owner/handler , who also walked away with the biggest prize.
